On November 16, the opening ceremony of the Sangju Weir symbolized the biker’s paradise was held at the Sangju Weir, Donam-dong Sanju-si of Gyeungsangbuk-do from 1 pm to 5 pm. In this event, more than 3,000 people attended including local residents and officials. The Sangju Weir includes a 105m movable weir, a 230m fixed weir, and a small hydroelectric power plant that generates 120million kWh per year of scale. It was designed with a pattern of the bicycle facing up while securing and restoring the nature, or the beauty of Sangju as much as possible. On the stand of a winch where the floodgate is adjusted, a twist plate was designed as blooming flower pedals to symbolize five fortunes.
It is the ‘Lucky Flower.’ With this, the Sangju city where the bikers are the most populated in Korea is all set to be reborn as a bicycle paradise coming around the landmark, or the Sangju Weir.
