Hapcheon Weir with Wing Strokes of Ibis

On November 26, the opening ceremony of the Hapcheon Weir was held prior to that of the Dalseong Weir at the construction site 20 of the Nakdong River Project in the Hapcheon Weir area in Deungrimri, Ibang-myeon of Changnyeong, Gyeongnam. This event was carried out in presence of 2,500 people including the public corporation personnel, agency officials, and local residents in an order of declaration, welcoming speech, brush performances, and celebratory performances.

Hapcheon Weir grabbed attention of the onlookers especially by the wingshaped design of ibis, or the symbol of Upo wetland. It is equipped with the ecofriendly movable weir with a flood gate in a length of 138m and a height of 9m, a small hydroelectric power plant with two generators of the 2500kW class, as well as the weir bridge which allows easy movements of vehicles, bikes, and people across the weir. In the ecology waterfront park nearby the weir, various sports facilities and wetlands are positioned as relaxation areas for the residents and the tourist attractions. The 380km-long bike path alongside the Nakdong River, seems to be already welcomed by the bicycle riders.
