Buddhist District Focused on the Discovered Status of Maae The Nakdan Weir is in total length of 286m and height of 11m with a 144m fixed weir and a 142m movable weir having the water storage capacity of 34.3 million tons. The small hydroelectric power plant generating annual electricity of 14.72 million kWh is in operation. The Nakdan Weir was designed in the motif from the eaves of Gwansuru, one of three riverside pavilions in the Nakdong River.
Therefore, the appearance of its winch stand is classic, quite unlike any other weirs.
The Nakdan Weir gained much reputation by a statue of Maaebulsang from the Goryeo Dynasty which was found during the construction. By the rapid response of officials and workers, the status of Buddha was able to be seen in the world with light after a long gone darkness especially without any damages. As the status of Maae Buddha was found, the scope and plans of the weir construction was changed to prevent damage. And this status of Maae Buddha became an icon of the Nakdan Weir.
The water front area specialized in Buddhist culture was created into an ecological space. The Buddhist cultural complex that will be established by municipal government is expected to form a new tourist infrastructure with the Nakdan Weir symbolizing the spirit of a scholar.
