Landmark of the bikers’ Paradise - Sangju Weir at the Nakdong River (11/5)

Sangju Weir represents Sangju-si where there is the highest coefficient of bike utilization across the country. A bicycle carved on the pillars is the mark symbolizing this. Sangju weir is in total length of 335m (a 105m movable weir and a 230m fixed weir). It is especially unique since a transmit type movable weir is installed which was not part of the original design. The transmit type movable weir allows flood stage decrease as well as easy adjustment of water level. The weir bridge is 540m long with a width of 5.0m (fixed weir) to 11.0m (movable weir) and an observatory is installed for spectators to enjoy the scenic view of the Nakdong River. In order to overcome the severance between upstream and lower stream of the multipurpose weir, natural fishway with a slope of 1:100 was created. Near the Sangju Weir, Gyeongcheon Forest with a Japanese red pine habitat and landscape trees and a theme bike park are established.

During Chuseok Holiday, spectators are walking on the weir bridge of the Sangju Weir at the Nakdong River even with the rain.
