The Bridge Connecting Changnyeung-gun to Hapcheon-gun - Hapcheon Weir of the Nakdong Weir (11/12)
Hapcheon Weir symbolized a soaring crested ibis will become the trademarks of Hapcheon along with Upo Wetland. It has the sharpest design among the weirs in the Nakdong River. Its total length is 328m with a 218 movable weir and a 110 fixed weir and the weir bridge plays a role to connect two areas, Changnyeong-gun and Hapcheon-gun. The weir bridge with a width of 675m is divided into an 11.5m traffic passage and a pedestrian road. The small hydroelectric power plant is installed in the right bank of the weir considering the soil influx measures and sedimentation and it has secured 25,300,000 kwh of annual electricity in 297 days. In order to compensate for the possible impediment of aquatic creatures’ free movement due to the weir installation, Borland fishway is installed near the small hydroelectric power plant where there is a great discharge rate. Through this fishway, the major species of the area or eels will make their ways pass the weir. At this moment, an observatory has already been constructed in the waterfront area of Jangcheon District and the waterfront area is expected to extend further. The riverside park next to the natural fishway in the left bank will be finished along with completion of the fishway. The opening ceremony will be held at the Hapcheon weir on November 12 but the details have not been decided yet.
