The Masterpiece Weir Getting Attention from Abroad - Ipo Weir of the Han River (10/22)

Ipo Weir is an absolute landmark that is the most famous among the 16 weirs with many visitors from home and abroad. The design of the weir representing the white heron, which is the symbol of Yeoju elicit exclamations from the spectators, and especially the beauty outstands when it is looked over from Pasan Fortress.


Ipo Weir is 591m long with a 295m of movable weir and a 296m of fixed weir. It has a 45 width and a 3m height to improve the flow of water in case of flooding. The small hydroelectric power plant built in the left bank of the weir has the annual generating capacity of 17,800,000kwh. The front area of the fixed weir is water square. With the water level of only 50 cm, it is the right fit for the kids to play in water.

The triathlon and KBS Open Concert were held on September 25 and on October 5 respectively before its opening and have already attracted the attention from the residents. With the official opening ceremony on October 22, Songpa play and windsurfing contest will be held as well as the performances of Kyeonggi-do Dance Company and of the theatrical people expressing the past and the present state of the Han River.
