The Fishway even for the Small Sized Fish - Gongju Weir of the Geum River (10/22)

Gongju weir is the center for the Baekje history with the winch chamber embodying a phoenix which had stood for King Muryeong, the zenith of Baekje culture and the weir bridge embodying wings and a tail of the phoenix.


In the Gongju Weir which is 280m long with a 220m of movable weir and a 60m of fixed weir, an Ice Harbor fishway is crated for the free movements of fish. In the left side waterfront of the weir is the natural fishway for movements of small fish with an installation to attract fish. For the production of the environment-friendly energy resources, the small hydroelectric power plant is installed in the right bank of the weir, and it has the annual generating capacity of 15,900,000 kwh in 344 days.

The areas near the Gongju Weir will be consisted of representative culture experience sites including Ungjin temple, Gongsan fortress, Baekje ancient tomb in Songsan-ri, Goma port, and the waterfront forest. Not only with the historical value of the area but also the long spread of the Geum River beach, about 450 pine groves, and the Yeonmi mountain create the beautiful scenic view.

At the Gongju Weir, the grand opening ceremony will be held on October 22. The ceremony will have various programs including the water sports demonstration, performances by bands and by choirs, and a musical called by which the actors and actresses from the area will present the history and hope of the Geum River.
 

In a trail of the park in the riverside of the Gongju Weir Woongin District, a pavilion and a wooden bridge were constructed.
