Located in the center of the South Han River, Yeoju Weir was symbolized Angbuilgu, the sundial invented by the King Sejong and Jagyeongnu, the water-clock. It is located in the area of Yeoju Yeoju Weir is 480m long (with a 1km weir bridge) across the stream in a width of 1km (the 480m low water way, 520m flood plane), and the low water way was covered entirely with a movable weir. Therefore, it can control the water level and wash away any sedimentation accumulated in the riverbed by lifting up the floodgate. The small hydroelectric power plant was built in the left bank in consideration of the topographic condition, geological features, constructability, and maintenance aspects.
Two types of fishways were constructed to allow free movements of the various species of fish; an Ice Harbor fishway on the left bank and a natural fishway on the right. Yeoju Weir will be open to public from October 1 as a temporary deal and its official opening will be on October 15.
Yeoju Weir embodying inventions of the King Sejong also has a sculpture for Hunminjeongem.
