The Center of Tourism in the South Han River - Gangcheon Weir of the Han River (10/15)

Gangcheon weir represents Hwangpo sailboats that used to be the means of transport in the South Han River. The design which captured the front of the sailboats stands out the most when looked over from Yeongweulnu.

Gangcheon Weir is 440m long with seven 50m span lengths. It consists of a 350m movable weir and a 90 fixed weir. Since there is no structure on the top of the weir, the external appearance is very clean and elegant. The weir bridge is in a length of 485m and a width of 10m, and has the small hydro-electric power plant that can annually generate 28,800,000 kwh, which is enough supply for 6700 mid-sized households.

Its biggest advantage is to experience various cultural programs utilizing the Fish Ecology Center, Aquatic Wild Flower District, Wild-Flower Garden, Geumeunbit Sand Ground, and Hwangpo Sailboat Port. It is expected to become the core of tourism in the South Han River especially with the camping sites for families and the biker’s society members.

The Gangcheon Weir has the official opening ceremony on October 15. In the event, celebratory performances will be provided along with other events such as embarkation experience of the Hwangpo sailboats, exhibition, and a lantern lighting activities.
