Clean water meanders through ourhometown brooks

Where our memories of childhood used to play on brooks has gone.Present image of our rivers is perishable when we encounter the reality of contaminated nature. It makes me hurt as if our memories got stained too. However, our streams, brooks and rivers are being changed into natural state to be recovered as like they dynamically meanderedback and forth.

Today our earth is inclined to scorch by climate change. Watershortage in this planet can be found when you see childrensomewhere in Africa dying to be thin out of water shortage.Someone might think that we are still free from the watershortage in Korea; however we cannot be free from the matter ofwater. The authority expects that we will suffer water shortage of800 million tons nationally in 2011, and 1 billion tons in 2016. Therefore, securing the clean and abundant water for ourdescendents is as crucial as national security matter.

Securing clean water resources starts from the revitalizationworks for our rivers. Skimming sediments, eliminating illegalfarmlands around the rivers and blocking off contaminants fromindustrial zones are being performed simultaneously.

Several meaningful works are on their active progress; to flowagain upon the long timely dried Nakdong River which hardlyflushes away accumulated contaminants on its river bed; toconvert the 4 to 5 grade water quality of the Yeongsan Riverwhich cannot be used as even agricultural purpose into 2ndgradeclean water; to revitalize the water of the Geum River out of itscontamination status due to the surrounding agricultural zones. When we get back the healthier facade of our hometown rivers,we might anticipate that our children can make their memories ofbeing with river as a nature.
