The scent of Bakjae culture, the happiness of wetland

Around the Geum River, Zone 6, the downstream area penetrating Buyeo, Cheongyang and Gongju city, there are not a few concentration of remains derived from Baekjae kingdom. Hence, in Buyeo County, several symbolic landscapes are to be created, affiliating with local historic images like Nakhwaam, Buso Mountain Fortress and more. From Changgang ferry to the final point of Zone 6(Cheongyang county, Gongju city), since it shows the geographical feature of escalating hills, it will be arranged as the environment friendly restoration space in harmony with vernacular images of hills. With multi-functional weirs as the center, the Buyeo Weir will present beautiful landscape, night scenery and scenic skyline harmonized with surrounding hills, showing the Image of 'the Awakened Buyeo Weir'.

As to the Geum River basin, specifically, through all the sectors, wetlands are to be adopted. Wetlands are scheduled to be recreated separately as 'merged plant area', 'floating leaved plant area', 'submerged plant area', 'free-floating hydrophytes area', depending on its depth and location. Since 'the emerged plant area' helps the water purification functions and provides fishes and amphibians with spawning pools, the emerged plant like reed, scirpus triqueter, sweet flag will be released more.

In 'the floating leaved plant area', we plant 'water caltrop' or 'nymphoides indica(a kind of lotus)' taking roots under the bottom of the river so that let them do the role of absorption the nutrient salts in the water, control the amount of insolation, and suppression of the overproliferation of phytoplankton. For 'the submerged plant area', by planting water plantain and hydrilla verticillata which make root under the bottom of wetland and have all the vegetative organs under water surface except its flowers, we would let them do the role as habitat for the aquatic animals. In 'the area for free-floating hydrophytes', the group of plants which live with floating the water surface not taking roots down are to be released so to let them absorb the underwater nitrogen or phosphorous in water. The candidates for that are duckweed and salvinia natans.

Also we will induce the puddles, sandy fields, gravelly fields and more to form naturally than ever before, so that they recover their naturality, biodiversity of riparian ecosystem then to result in stable alternative habitats. Especially, we make endeavors for the endangered species like 'miho spine loach' and 'gobiobotia naktongensis(a kind of carp)' to be constantly inhabitable.

In the waterfront area close to the people's access, plaza, resting places, 'migratory birds observatory decks', the waterfront stage set and walking trails are to be created.
