The spaces of ecology and culture

At Ipo weir in Yeoju, Gyeonggi province which will be completed on the December 15, 2011, Mr. A’s wish will be expressly reflected. The motif of Ipo weir is‘ a river where life is awakening, new Korea’which represents the shape of the future Han River where citizens do cultural activities and healthy eco-system.

The design of Ipo weir represents a white heron, the bird of Yeoju city, and the shape of cultural plaza is realized from their pottery.

It is an effort to contain culture and history. On the pedestrian bridge at upper part of the weir, a 744m-long bicycle road will be built as Mr. A wishes. Under the bridge, an‘ aquatic plaza’will be built where families can get together. On the left side of the aquatic plaza, there is a cultural plaza where various events such as concerts can be held. An ecological plaza located in next to the cultural plaza provides kids and young people to enjoy various plants and animals.

Ipo weir will also provide fantastic nightscape. At night, curtains of the fountain wall will be activated along the weir. Visitors will see a wonderful fountain show. There will also appear reflections of the moon and stars.
