Hapcheon Weir - "Symbolizing a soaring crested ibis"

Outward appearance of the Hapcheon Weir was borrowed from crested ibis which symbolizes the Upo Wetland formed 140 million years ago, which is a pride of the county of Hapcheon. Since the crested ibis is designated as one of the endangered wildlife with mere 20000 members, they are slightly increasing the numbers thanks to artificial breeding. Due to the wing-shape sculpture on top of the weir unlike others, the overall impression that the weir gives resembles with soaring crested ibis. The public bridge connecting Changnyeong County and Hapcheon County allows passages of both vehicles and pedestrians. The Hapcheon weir only left a completion of the small hydropower plant and finishing touch on the static parts of the weir. Temporary equipments attached to the pillars of the weir were almost torn down to reveal decent line of the structure. A vast esplanade in Deungrim-ri stretches toward left banks downstream. Trees planted this spring gradually settled down their roots turning into leafy. Bike path and walking trails was preparing to welcome the visitors. The environs of the Hapcheon Weir are designated as the 5th view among ‘the Eight Views of the Nakdong’. The Upo Wetland, old port, Ogwangdae village and more are where you deserve to visit. The esplanade right side from the weir had once been misunderstood as a heap of dredged soil. Actually, this area is a naturally intact esplanade keeping picturesque scenery around the weir.
