Haman Weir - "Harmonizing with surrounding nature, with swan’s wing"
Reflecting the regional feature with historical prosperity of ancient Gaya Kingdom, the Haman Weir borrowed its design motive from the wings of big swan sitting on the Nakdong River. As soaring swan, the weir is designed to symbolize presently developing Gyeongnam Province. The weir stretches 567.5m in total length (movable 146m and static 421.5m). By designing the structure in lower height, it makes harmony with the lines of surrounding environment. Because of low height of the movable weir, the rising-sector gate type was adopted. It makes movement in rotating instead of perpendicular opening. It can flow away the water over the weir as well as discharge from the bottom of the weir to wash away the accumulated sand. In the late July, artistic structure on the winch gradually reveals its shape as like a swan. Road connecting work to the existing 1022 Road on the left bank is also in its finishing stroke.
