Gumi Weir - "A 360-degree revolution observatory makes you have a glance on the Nakdong"
The Gumi Weir was designed with concept of tortoise the symbol of fortune and dragon which represents the impenetrable protection. It was the emblematic significance which was bestowed on the belief of safe water and protection for the Nakdong River. The most eye-catching feature of the Gumi Weir is elevator observatory. Until the insistence that this observatory has structural crack had been proved groundless, this place had rough time last year. At the central winch with shape of tortoise, observatory deck was installed for 360-degree all directional view to the Nakdong River. You could see the Haepyeong Wetland of Gumi at an eye-sight from here. With the observatory on the center, 103.5m-long movable weirs structures stand on both sides, the total length of the weir is 640m; movable 103.5 and static 536.5m. In July this year, steel frame was set on the upper part of the winch, while elevator was being installed in the corridor from the public bridge to the winch. The elevator is for tourists’ easier access to the winch. From the esplanade of the left bank near the public bridge to the upstream, bike path and Riverside Park will be settled. The problem concerning this park is bad accessibility so that you have to inevitably divert about 2km from motorway. To solve this, they will pave new connection road to the parking lot of Riverside Park.
