Chilgok Weir - "Reborn as Memorial Park for the Deceased Patriots"
The Waegwan Railroad Bridge which had partial loss in its pillar at recent heavy rainfall is located in the downstream area from the Chilgok Weir. Waegwan was one of the fierce battle field during Korean War (1950~1953). The Chilgok stands in the middle of the historic scenery. The design concept was motivated from a legend. And according to Docham-ism in Shilla period, iron bull was buried under the Gasan Rock to pacify the spirit of earth. That’s why sculpture resembling bull’s horn is carved on the structure of winch. Basic structures were completed and fence work for the public bridge is in the final step. On the esplanade left from the weir, park of approximate 100 ha is scheduled to be opened and it is incoming. At the end of the park, there is a War Memorial Hall commemorating the deceased patriots. So, after the Project, the Chilgok Weir and environs will reborn as a Memorial Park for the Deceased Patriots.
