Baekje Weir - "Baekma River’s waterway with sacred spirit of General Gye Baek"
The shape of General Gye Baek on horse is embodied to the Baekje Weir. Considering the Geum River has another name of Baekma River in the vicinity of Buyeo, we applied the storytelling theme of the ‘Return of General Gye Baek’ on this movable weir. It consists of movable part (120m) and static part (191m), therefore total length reaches 311 meter. The sluicegate and small hydro-power generation facility were finished. As of July 20, constructions on the public bridge and interior of culture center are ongoing. The waterfront area creation work on the process to be completed by the end of September is being touched with various characteristics of themes by respective area. Especially, the surround of the weir is going to have a riparian area of communication between visitors and local residents with taking Baekje history as a medium. At the district of Wangjin Naru (Wangjin Port), Hapjenaru Square, small port, natural fishways, open stage, rape blossom field and riparian area observatory deck are to be installed. Mugunghwa (hibiscus) Park and Cherry Blossom Park are created next to the PR pavilion on the left side of the weir. Bike path with 31.7km length is also to be newly paved. Through this Project, total 21.7km new road is created. Bikers and drivers came to enjoy the scenery more closely to the river.
