Seungchon Weir - "Gatekeeper of the Yeongsan River flowing through Honam Plain"

The fertility of the Honam Plain, once representative granary and seed of life are the design concept of the Seungchon Weir. Total length is 512m, which consists of movable sector (176m) and static sector (336m). This weir was in the middle of the most issues throughout the Project. It had been spotlighted from media from the initial stage of the Project. Moreover, since Munsu Seowon (traditional lecture hall) has been a controversial object by environmentalists. However, as the Project goes on, local residents’ sentiment turned favorable. The Seungchon Weir had finished most of works on public bridge, floodgate, artwork sculpture, small hydro-power plant and cultural hall. Construction road and cofferdams were torn down so that river keeps stable flow. No inundation damage was found in environs of the weir, riverside ecological areas and farmlands.
