Time to prepare ‘the Post-Four Rivers’, Seminar of Buguk Environment Forum


With the 19th World Water Day a couple of days ahead, on 16 march, 2011, a corporate aggregate of Buguk Environment Forum holds a seminar ‘Water and better nation building’ in Korea Press Center (Taepyeong-ro, Jung-gu, Seoul). Mr. PARK Seok-Sun, CEO of Buguk Environment Forum, he explained the historical fact that Mayan and Khmer Civilization fell down owing to recurring drought and flood, with emphasizing how precious for us water management is. Especially approximate one hundred times of droughts during 490 years of Joseon Dynasty and the extreme drought (1876-1905) was one of the causes which led its collapse. Comparing cases of African countries which mostly failed to manage water resources with another contrastingly successful case of Israel, he renewed his point on the importance of thorough management for water resource. Mr. SHIN Hyeon-Seok, a director of Green National Land & Water Resource Management Institute, Busan University, defined the key words of the Four Major Rivers Restoration Project as ‘Nature preservation’, ‘Water purification’, ‘Developing human civilization’ and ‘Land restoration’ in the presentation titled as ‘Direction of Post-4 Major Rivers which will head up Green-Growth and Water Security’. He pointed out that the four major rivers before ongoing project had suffered from frequent inundation, deteriorated water quality, water shortage from drought and pollutants leak accidents. He underlined that sustainable countermeasure for post-4 Rivers and national strategic approach to water resource.
