Theme for the Opening of 16 Weirs - 4 Rivers, the New Wave

Starting from the opening of the Sejong Weir in Yeongi-gun, Chungnam on September 24, the 16 weirs across the county are being introduced to the public in order. It has been 2 years since the construction had begun in the second half year of 2009. Office of National River restoration has appointed the theme for the opening of weirs in the four rivers as ‘4Rivers, the New Wave’ and introduced a new logo as well. It conveys the meaning of appreciating the essence of rivers, which stands for the communication through culture that flows with water and the will to create new meaning of cultural, environmental, and economic wave.

The logo symbolizing ‘4Rivers, the New Wave’ has expressed harmony and green growth between people and the locals accomplished by the new wave, and it embodied the shape of close relation as displaying the happy people in the four rivers. The four colors used in the logo relatively represent blue for water, sky blue for sky, green for trees, and orange for land, which altogether embodied the river and its surroundings.

The logo and the theme ‘4Rivers, the New Wave’ are extracted from the opinion pull of surveys and suggestions made by people in different social classes including opinion leaders, experts in the related fields, residents, and college students between last June to August.

The survey of public opinion showed that people preferred the symbolic keyword of the Four Major Rivers Restoration Project as on ‘Culture and Wave,’ next on Life and ecofriendly, and harmony and communication.
