A Pillar as the Guard of History - Chilgok Weir at the Nakdong River (11/19)

As the fierce battle site of the Korean War, the Chilgok Weir was installed in a region abundant of historical cultural resources such as the Patriots’ Bridge, a memorial park commemorating the deceased patriots, the Waegwan War Memorial Hall, and an old Waegwan railway bridge.

The main water gates of the Chilgok Weir were decentralized to procure safe maintenance and set up to respond flexibly to the low frequent floods. Fishways were created in a natural type and a full Ice Harbor type. The riffle was installed to give a little break to relatively small fish. In the surrounding areas, an eco-park and waterside areas with themes have been created as well as the reed and flame grass communities and a waterfront forest on the river side.

Chilgok weir will have an opening ceremony on November 19 in presence of the director of the Management of National Territory in Busan and the governer. In the ceremony, the waterbike and hot-air balloon experience, a mini-garden make activity, a photo exhibition, a firework show, and the flying lantern of hope programs are scheduled.
