Hoping Green Revolution with bike lanes to spread out

Until the end of the year, 1,361 km length of bike lanes connecting through the four major rivers is completed. Providing completed, not only cycling enthusiasts but ordinary starters could run along the newly opened bike lane throughout the whole nation. Paving the ways for bicycles are mainly allocated around the 36 Scenic Views of the Four Major Rivers. Municipalities move busy with responsibility for its concrete fulfillment.

Bike lane will play a key role in green revolution in many points. Due to zero carbon emission, bicycle is a future-oriented means of transportation environment-friendly and effective for preventing unnecessary energy dissipation. Riparian accessibility for bike lanes can boost local residents’ participation with contributing to public health. It can be an excellent tourist attraction for foreigners who visit Korea.

When the bike paths are completed, the Four Rivers Restoration Project will be finalized after two year’s long walk. The next mission is surely a stable and thorough management of our further more upgraded national territory environment. For this, government plans to run ‘Integrated Rivers Management Governance’ which means government-led strict management with participation of relevant municipalities and residents, that is, officials-people joint management system for restored natural resources. Even though the Four Major Rivers Restoration Project finishes in 2011, however, more important management system will begin in earnest.
