The Geumnam, Buyeo and Geumgang Weirs Reflecting History and Culture of Baekjae

The weirs of the Geum Rivers are connected with the concepts of revival of Baekjae Culture. Especially, the Buyeo Weir will be seemingly positioned as a landmark of Gongju and Buyeo where held 2010 World Festival of Baekjae. As of September 1st, total completion rate including the weirs is 30.6%.

Underwater weir started its operation of sluice gate, the Geumnam Weir(1stconstruction area)

The sector of the Geumnam Weir from the Miho Stream to the Daegyo Stream has symbolic significance that it penetrates the center of Sejong-si (Administrative and Innovative Planned City). It is an underwater weir without public bridge on it. Being the lowest in heights, it shows excellent fluidic aesthetics.

The Buyeo Weir (the 6thconstruction site) gives impression of historic General Gye Baek.

The Buyeo Weir starting from the Nakhwaam and 'Buso Sanseong (Buso Mountain Fortress)' was designed with main theme of the Baekma River and Baek-Hyang-Ryu-Su (means 'Scent of Baekjae flows over the river'). The historic dramatization met the story imbued with capital transmission from Ungjin (present Gongju) to Sabi (Buyeo). The movable weir wears impression of General Gye Baek on the horse ride.

The Geumgang Weir (7thconstruction site), signifying phoenix of King Muryeong.

Its motive is oriental phoenix (Bonghwang) signifying King Muryeong of Baekjae Dynasty. King Muryeong strived to accomplish water control infrastructure to develop the Geum River basin and the Honam Prairie. In winch room which lifts up sluice gate, we sculpted head of phoenix and dragon balls, and using three dimensional artworks, we expressed wings and tail of the phoenix.
