The term ‘environmentally sound and sustainable development,’ coined by the World Commission on Environment and Development in 1987, serves as guidelines for our use of nature in a way that embraces both development and conservation. Sustainable development aims to preserve the continuity of our natural resources, while limiting new demands on our resources and leaving some portion unaffected by human influence.
Rivers and streams are irreplaceable, and so is water. This fact calls for our continued efforts to maintain the ecological value of rivers and their value as a resource. The Four Rivers Restoration Project is aimed at healing our rivers, which have been the target of exploitation until now.
