On July 3rd delegation of Ministry of Water Conservation from Mainland China visited the construction site of the Ipo Weir, Yeoju, one of the sectors of the Four Major Rivers Restoration Project. Ministry of Water Conservation is a ministry level central governmental organization, which is in whole charge of water related affairs in China. In this delegation, there are 8 persons including Mr. CHAO Shi-Shan, Head Director of International Cooperation and Technology-Science Affairs.
The Ministry of Water Conservation of China once showed considerable interest in 'the Four Major Rivers Restoration Project' presented by Korean Government in 'Sino-Korean Conference of Technical Cooperation' held during last June 2009 in Beijing. According to that, the persons who participated in the Conference of Technological Cooperation on Water Resource (July 2nd to 7th) had decided to visit the construction field of the project.
At the conference last year 2009, the Ministry of Water Conservation of China paid considerable attention to the plans for creations of local development, riparian complex area including bike path and several ecological friendly steps. Moreover they highly rated Korean government's policies of water-borne system management which considers diverse factors beyond merely water conservation, regarding them as very developed policy. Especially China is keeping on securing the adequate amount of water resource through mega dams like in Three Gorges (Sanxia). That is also the reason why the Chinese officials have great interest in Korean Project on rivers restoration.
Meanwhile, 'Sino-Korean Conference of Technical Cooperation' has been held annually in rotation each countries, under the agreement on cooperation for water resources between 'the Ministry of Land, Transportation and Maritime Affairs'(Korea) and 'the Ministry of Water Conservation'(China).
