In Geum River, total three weirs are to be built; the Geumnam Weir, the Gongju Weir, the Buyeo Weir. Among them, the Buyeo Weir(under construction by GS Construction Consortium, connecting Jeongdong, Buyeo and Wangjin, Cheongnam) is rather rapid in active construction process of all. The designing concept of the Buyeo Weir is 'Eco-Friendly Revitalization of the Geum River with reinvigorating the local identity'. As to the local identity, it means that the Geum River has witnessed the history from time immemorial and had been together with the history of Baekjae Kingdom.

The Kingdom of Baekje had lasted until A.D. 660 during 31 Kings chronically reign, also was the Sea Power with advanced political and cultural system. In the middle of 4th Century, they made a strong commercial maritime power in solidarity with Japan and China. They also made remarkable role in transference of ancient culture and technologies to Japan.

In the prosperous time of Baekje, the Geum River was the starting point of the sea route, and Buyeo was a big international trade port of those days. When the dynasty was fallen down by the invasion of Shilla-Tang allied forces, about 3000 maids of honor killed themselves by jumping from the cliff located the lower area of Geum River, says the stories of history. Around the Geum River, there are many historic monuments like Cheonjeongdae(sort of Oracle), ruin of site of Wangheung Temple and Imgang Temple which make us to imagine them.
