Mr. SHIM Myung-Phil takes part in the explanation the Project for Catholic Priests in Masan

Emphasis the necessity of the Project to the priests and nuns

Mr. SHIM Myung-Phil, the head of the Office of National River Restoration, took part in the briefing session of the Four Rivers Restoration Project for the about 100 members of religious groups in the Diocese of Masan city, Gyeongnam Province.

On the presentation held in the hall of the Catholic Diocese of Masan in last April 27, governmental officers(Mr. SHIM Myung-Phil, Mr. LEE Jae-Hyeon, the chief of Nakdong River Regional Environmental Office, and others) and several scholars opposing the Project, Prof. KIM Jeong-Wook the head of Korea Rivers Association (Graduate School of Environment, Seoul National University), Prof. PARK Chang-Geun Head of Civil Environment Research Lab of KFEM(Korea Foundation of Environmental Movement). The briefing session was progressed in the order of panels’ presentations, discussions and ‘Q&A’.
About the Project, Head Officer SHIM replied with confidence, “The Project in rather short construction period is much safer with all the energy. Within some years, there is always possibility of the judgment upon the project. Therefore, we never let the rivers neither die nor ruin at all.” He continued to say, “The biggest problem of the Nakdong River is chronic water shortage. In order for fundamental solution, to enlarge the water vessel is the key of the Four Rivers Restoration Project.”

After the briefing, he listened to the opinions whose oppose to the Project, and kept on delivering the truth of the Project during the discussions and Q&A session. In future the Office will decide on a course of active persuasion for the opposition’s voices.
