Infrastructure Asia 2010 Exhibition & Conference

The Four Rivers Restoration Project is future-oriented and multipurpose infrastructure project that will quench the thirst of diverse pending issues.

In the Infrastructure Asia 2010 Exhibition & Conference hosted by Indonesian government and supported by UNESCAP(United Nations Economics and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific), Asian Development Bank, The World Bank, there were 1,300 participants from 78 countries. At the ministerial conference started from the opening address by Indonesian President, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, took part in about 20 ministers from Pacific-Asian countries and VIP’s from Export-Import Bank of the United States, GE, Intel and so forth.

Discussed for the Future Infrastructure Business of Asia Pacific Countries

The main objects of the conference are to build the conditions for developing the infrastructures under the collaboration between Asian countries and corporations, to discuss for the future infrastructures for seeking the solution for that. President Yudhoyono said, “Developing infrastructure is very crucial for establishing a firm foothold in order to enhance the national welfare. For establishing funding structure for this, it is strongly needed to build public-private partnership and strengthen the ties. ”

About this, Mr. Noeleen Heyzer, the Executive Secretary of UNESCAP, commented as below. “According to recent reports, to Asian countries, it is needed 750,000 milions US dollars annually for infrastructure to up to date with the population and economic growth from 2010 to 2020. Therefore, public-private collaborative approaches must be activated. ” In the Expo held with the ministerial conference, 129 booths were set in total 10,000 m² of area. World-class corporations of Mitsubishi, Hitachi, Nokia, and more took part in. From Korea, the Office of National River Restoration, Saemangeum Project Office, Korea Rail Network Authority, Doosan Engineering did active promotion with exhibition pavilions.

Interest on the building public-private partnership on the 4 Rivers Restoration Project

In the presentation by sections (April 16), the Four Rivers Restoration Project received remarkable attentions. This day, on the side of the Office of National River Restoration (Korea), they introduced the Four Rivers Restoration Project during the discussion about ‘Water Supply & Sanitation’. The speaker, Mr. SONG Jae-Yong, director of Water Quality Bureau, explained that the Project is multipurpose green new deal project including both ‘water quality improvement’ and ‘water resource management’ as well as future-oriented infrastructural works able to solve the multiple issues on the environmental, social and economic point of views.

The panelists from many countries of world paid deep attention and shared the view on the opinion that the Project can establish the economically and socially effective structure and can provide the locomotive for balanced development. They praised the Project as saying that it will surely enhance the quality of life and strengthen the basis of bolstering economy among recent economy crisis. They also showed expectation about the future direction of building the public-private partnership.
