Seungchon Weir

'The Seed of Life' that will revitalize the Yeongsan River

The Yeongsan River, 137km long and size of 3,455km2, originates from the linn in Chuwol Mountain, Yong-myeon, Damyang-gun, Jeonnam Province, and connects to the ocean at a dam on Mokpo and Yeongam's border, passing through Damyang, Naju, Yeongam, Hampyeong and Muan. The river is lifeline of Jeonnam Province. However, the river is suffering from serious pollution. The reason for government's decision to put 3 trillion won budget to save the river is that.

Core project of the Yeongsan River Restoration Project is construction of the Seungchon weir. The weir, which would cost 306.5 billion won, has a concept of 'seed of life', reflecting the local character. The weir will not only control the amount of water against drought and flood, but also restore ecology through making 'fish road,' and create a park.

Also, beautiful scenery of the Seungchon weir boasts artistic sight, and it is expected to become a famous tourist spot.
