Adding IT Technology to the Four Major Rivers Project, for Smart Rivers

High-tech information technology will be added for improvement of ecology and water quality and prevent flood. The Office of National River Restoration announced information project technology to add IT techniques by investing 115 billion won to the Four Major Rivers Restoration Project. The MLTM decided to realize 'Smart River' by adding IT technologies to key projects such as securing water resource, prevention of flood, improvement of water quality and ecology and development of combined spaces. To do so, water amount supervision system that manages water amount ontime by checking the water flow will be improved to meet each river's condition, and the current 2-D river topography information management system will be replaced with 3D one. Also, existing flood prevention system will be connected to the 16 reservoirs and 96 agricultural reservoirs that will be built through the four rivers project, and early warning system for natural disasters for the residents using the river willbe intensified. For preservation of water quality and marine environment, the ministry will establish monitoring system to supervise water quality in sixteen reservoirs with cooperation of Ministries of Environment, Knowledge Economy, and Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.
