Please tell us about rivers in Paraguay with their status in function.

To Paraguayan people, river is fundamental ground of life because most of the energy in the country is generated from river. We have two big rivers, the Paraguay River and the Parana River. Additionally, there is the Pilcomayo River which forms the border facing Argentine. The Paraguay River passes through the capital, Asuncion; the Parana makes the confluence with the Paraguay River to follow. Later, it meets with La Plata River. The Parana River is the transportation route to Europe and other continents as well as national boundaries to Brazil and Argentine. The river is dammed by the impressive Itaipu Dam, the second largest hydroelectric power station in the world (after the Three Gorges Dam in China), and creating a massive, shallow reservoir behind it. The electricity generated from Itaipu Dam is also exported to neighboring countries. At present, Paraguay is a forerunner in the clean-energy exportation field.
