Sangju Weir - "Landmark of the Nakdong with modern beauty"
As it comes to the finalizing phase, the Sangju Weir became more crowded with visitors. It is triggered by environmental groups, who insist that the partial loss of the Sangju Embankment and erosion of the Byeongseong Stream are implicated with the weir construction. The embankment wall which was partially swept by torrential downpour in June was already fortified with gabions. Due to strong current and undertow, the structure is to be fortified by gabions for later construction of retaining wall. Total length is 335m. And it consists of movable part (105m) and static part (230m). The bike path upon the public bridge was already paved and waits completion. The winch with its artistic curve has almost formed the shape. It is said that there is another beauty on its design aspect unlike the sketch of initial stage. In the right side of the Sangju Weir, a forest called as Gyeongcheon Suph (forest) is widely spread. Though all the environmentalists insisted that this forest would be destroyed by the Project, pine tree colony and plants for landscape have already rooted down with flourishing more leafy forest. In downstream spot from the Sangju Weir, bicycle path and pedestrian trail are on the finishing touch along the 2km promenade.
