Netherlands - Visit the meaningful site which prevents flood with dams and sea-walls

The visiting team with Mr. SHIM had conference with Dutch officials’ representatives led by Mr. Simon SMITH, the high-profiled director of Economy Department, on bilateral interests about water resource managements and related enterprises. Dutch representatives, at the meeting, introduced their Room for the River Project and asserted the necessity of building strengthened mutual tie between two countries, while Korean side briefed on the project and sought advice on knowhow of Dutch advanced water management system. The both sides empathized each other on high necessity on establishing close cooperative relationship and continue keeping giving working-level effort on mutual technical exchange and measures in dealing with global warming. Korean delegation visited the Delta area where was severely damaged by inundation and seismic sea wave from the North Sea with 72,000 of flood victims left in southwestern coast of the country in 1953. Now it prevents inundation by decades of dams and breakwater. Especially, the area was well-equipped with fan-shape huge structure of sea-wall (210 m in width, 22 m in height) which blocks the inundation of seawater in emergency.
