We must go beyond rivers

The Four Rivers Restoration Project will seek to expand and improve sewage disposal facilities, improve the condition of the riverbanks, and restore water quality and ecosystems through the creation of wetlands. The riverside areas, which have largely been neglected, will be converted into ecological parks for children and families, providing a safe and pleasant leisure area that will improve the overall quality of life of local residents.

The dredging of the rivers will lower flood water levels, while the construction of flood control and water retention areas will help prevent flooding. Weir building and dredging will be effective countermeasures against water shortage and droughts, and will annually save approximately 1.3 billion tons of water a year, once the project is completed.
