Riparian area is precious green source of life as well as tour resource of tourism.

It will be the wisdom of the wise that we endeavor to maximize the recycle of water resource just from rain for prudent and useful use. Historically, construction of dam traces back to BC 2900 Egypt. The ancient Egyptians partially blocked the stream of the Nile to control the drought and flood. Today there are no countries that do not maintain the dam as water control structures. With knowing that a dam built in BC 1300 in Syria still functions, we can realize that water control project is as good as possible. Moreover the lessons from those histories emphasize that water control undertaking is essential to human civilization's prosperity. Like human civilization began upon the rivers, the more prosperous our standard of living becomes, the more population will be concentrated to waterfront area.

Around the basins of the four rivers occupying about 70% of South Korea, 78% of whole population reside. When this much population makes harmony with nature and its rivers, our nation will be developed nation with truly decent standard of people, I believe. Newly created green ecological area can be maintained under our indomitable will to protect vital water resources.

If people cannot compromise to reconcile with surrounding nature, the nation must be doomed to become hardly developed one. The waterfront area of the Yamuna River along the capital of India, New Delhi, is crematorium burning corpse, waterworks, and wash place for residents. Because I have witnessed the scene of rising smoke on the river day and night during 8 years, watching down from the 5th floor office of Southeastern Headquarter of WHO on the hill, so I earnestly wish that our four rivers restoration project will be accomplished with great success for all of us.
