Compensation for Farming Loss under the Four Major Rivers Project

The Office for the National River Restoration will start compensation for farming loss and obstacle transfer caused by reversion of farmlands to the government for the four major rivers restoration project. The compensation will start from Sep. 21 with 180 billion won including 116.4 billion won for the Buyeo region and will additionally be executed with 400 billion won from the end of September. And by the end of this year, 580 billion won in total will be put in for compensation.

For fast and smooth compensation, experts from the Korea Land Corporation conducted preliminary surveys on farmlands and greenhouses starting from May 25th to July 31st and appraisal has been almost completed based on the survey result.

The target for aforementioned compensation is farmlands and green houses surrounding rivers where the first phase of restoration project will be implemented in October, and other privately owned lands to be reverted to the government will also be compensated earlier in order to prevent potential farming loss.

Especially, Chungnam and Buyeo regions, the largest land area of 12,260 thousand ㎡ among the lands targeted for compensation, will initially get compensation thanks to smooth consultation between the government and local residents. It is expected to accelerate the implementation of the restoration project.

In addition, the Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs will thoroughly conduct inspection on illegally built facilities, which aim to get compensation unlawfully, and take strict administrative measures on any violation. To this end, the Ministry will set up a joint team to strengthen on-the-spot investigation and supervision and to prevent any violation such as speculative or illegal actions.
