The Ipo Weir had actually gained the highest preference in weir design contest. Its concept is “Life-awakening River and New Korea”, the vision of the Project, with embodying white heron (egret), the mascot of Yeoju County. The completed Ipo Weir stretches total 591 meter long, which consists of movable part (293m) and static part (296m). Its shape flows in gentle curve and gives impression of egret’s egg on it. In the rounded part embodying the egret’s egg, winch is installed for vertical operation of sluice gates. Circle-type plaza is created below the weir. The Ipo Weir had become the talk of the town for better or worse. The Ipo Weir has been the representative visiting spot throughout the Project. The foreign visitors came to benchmark our hydraulic structure technology, on the other side, opposing groups or environmentalists who stand against the Project paid a visit here too. Especially, in the last year, it used to be halted in progress due to sit-in demonstration. In the Dangnam district which is scheduled to be completed by late-September, recreational area for leisure and camping. Inside the Dangnamri Isle, ecological experience zone and picnic zone for family will be opened. Yangchon district will have fluvial park with maximum natural environment; the Yeoju Retention Area will be famous for its four-season events.
