President LEE Myung-Bak, participated in Sangju Bicycle Festival


The opening ceremony of the Third Sangju Bicycle Festival was held in Sangju (Gyeongbuk Province) renowned as ‘the city of bicycle’. In the festival which hosted by ‘Ministry of Public Administration and Security’ and ‘Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism’, not only President LEE Myung-Bak but also KIM Gwan-Yong, governor of Gyeongbuk Province, Mr. SEONG Baek-Yeong, mayor of Sangju City and over 10 thousands VIP’s and citizens. Mayor SEONG Baek-Yeong expressed his hope that the festival could be a stepstone forward national green growth policy in the opening declaration. And Mr. KIM Gwan-Yong, the governor of Gyeongbuk Province, said that Sangju has developed the bicycle culture from not recreational aspect but its transportational necessity. “Thanks to the national network of bike trail, almost half of the whole peoples could enjoy bicycle life.” President LEE Myung-Bak took around the city, riding on bicycle with other participants there. After him, approximate two thousands of citizens and local bike members marched the street together. Meanwhile, the city opened PR pavilion with the placard and banners saying “Sangju with 100 year history of Bicycle” and about twenty unusual types of bikes displayed. The festival was held not only in Sangju but in nationwide base until April 24.
