The Eight Views of the Yeongsan will hold its legend and tales

Your tour starts from appreciating the lithium sunset on the estuary, the First View. Then, the Second View is a magnificent view of the Gokgang (the Gomakwon Stream, the first tributary of the Yeongsan) which bends at an angle of 90 degree. There is also a place called Mongtan which treasures dream of Wang Geon (AD 877 – 943, the first king of Goryeo Dynasty). The Third View is ‘hwangpo dotsbae’ (Korean traditional lugsail boat with royal robe). You can see ‘Ibyeol Bawi’ (Separation Rock) and Seokgwanjeong gazebo around there. The Fourth is Dayadeul (Daya Field) where the Juksan Weir (8.7m-high, 607m-long and 2.2 million ton retention capacity) locates near. The Fifth is Naju Plain. It is representative granary of Korea, and also Yeongsanpo (Yeongsan Port/Harbor) is nearly situated. Yeongsanpo is scheduled to be restored. The Sixth View is the Seungchon Weir (10 m in height, 540 m in width) which will be a landmark of the region. It is capable of retain 9.7 million tons of water during long dry season. The dignity of Yeongsan River goes high. The floodgate’s pillar of weir realized as a shape of a grain of rice, and if you look closer, you can find a sculpture which resembles migratory bird’s egg. Aside of the Seungchon Weir, tributaries (old waterways) will be restored. On the restored rivers, traditional rugsail boats will slowly flow as like the salt merchants did.

The Seventh View is the Pungyeong gazebo (Pungyeongjeong). The place is where classical scholars used to eulogize the nature. It was built by KIM Eon-Geo in 1560. And in the gazebo where LEE Hwang and KI Dae-Seung used to visit strolling, there is a woodlock that HAN Seol-Bong, the greatest calligrapher of the time, created a work written as ‘Je-Il-Ho-San’ (the best mountain of Honam region. In the Pungyeongjeong, there is sad love story from hundreds years ago. <> This old tale will be realized as a ‘Light and Salt Square’. The last Eighth View is Damyang. This village is famous for its bamboo. Bamboo forest will be rearranged aside by the Damyang Wetland to give the finishing touch to the 8 Views of the Yeongsan River.
