Bilbao, Culture City with Guggenheim Museum (Spain)

The executive team was headed for Bilbaoria 2000 in Bilbao, Spain. This northeastern city sitting on the basin of the Nervion River with Basque heritage had declined behind the fading steel industry with increasing abandoned mines. However, Bibao successfully transformed its future by a series of urban restoration plans including hosting world famous Guggenheim Museum. Especially it showed state-of-the-art public artworks using waterfront areas and bridges on the Nervion River with artistic themes. So, the city evolves as successful model of sustainable culture city. Mr. SHIM Myung Pil and his company visited some public facilities where remodeled on inspiration from riparian ecosystem as well as Guggenheim Museum, then were briefed from Spanish officials.

Leaving Bilbao as the last destination of the itinerary, the team not only confirmed a desirable result, but also saw tangible possibility to apply to the case out of visit to water resource systems of three European countries. The Netherlands expects more strengthened tie in technology cooperation with Korea on river restoration and waterfront development. Germany and Spain sent high applaud with expectation for further fruition on the Four Major Rivers Restoration Project which is driven by Korean government.
